Softball Recap: Lathrop Comes Up Short

Lathrop extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping their season record down to 1-5 in the process. They lost 14-2 to the Wasilla Warriors. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Lathrop saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaylee Himes, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double. That double marked the first that Himes has hit this season.

As for Wasilla, the victory was their first at home , bumping their record up to 3-8-1. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

On Wasilla's side, Mia Caldwell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Caldwell has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Allison Devine was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Avery Cook was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Lathrop is set to take on their familiar foe Colony at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Wasilla will face off against rival West Valley on Saturday.
