Softball Recap: St. Maries Wins Going Away Against Priest River

St. Maries was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Priest River on Monday. The Lumberjacks put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 22-3 victory. The win continues a trend for the Lumberjacks in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won five in a row.

Addyson Stewart made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madison Thomas, who got on base in all six of her plate appearances with four runs, five RBI, and two doubles. She is also on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Brenna Elliott was another key player, going 2-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one double.

St. Maries now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Priest River, their defeat was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-13-1.

Looking ahead, St. Maries will welcome Kellogg at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.92 runs per game on average), something the Lumberjacks will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Priest River, they will head out on the road to challenge Bonners Ferry at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
