Softball Recap: Archbishop McNicholas Comes Up Short

Archbishop McNicholas fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Sycamore on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Aviators by a score of 3-2. The Rockets were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Aviators earlier this season, when they won 6-5.

Natalie Jones spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Grace Reuss was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

This is the second loss in a row for Archbishop McNicholas and nudges their season record down to 7-6. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 14-2 Badin (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 72.3% over those games). As for Sycamore, their victory bumped their record up to 8-6.

Looking ahead, Archbishop McNicholas will challenge Badin at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Rams will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Rockets surely won't give up without a fight. As for Sycamore, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Fairfield at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
