Basketball Recap: Landon Haggarty and Tyree White Secure Win for Covenant Day

Covenant Day's game on Thursday was all tied up 33-33 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They walked away with a 74-63 victory over the Charlotte Christian Knights. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Covenant Day was led to victory by Tyree White and Landon Haggarty. White went 11-for-14 on his way to 27 points in addition to seven assists and six rebounds, while Haggarty went 6-for-9 to rack up 21 points and four steals. White also grabbed three steals, which is notable because Covenant Day is 5-1 when he posts at least three steals, but 10-12 otherwise. Chris Rivens was another key player, putting up ten points.

Several Knights players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Matty Carroll, who went 7-for-9 en route to 20 points. The dominant performance also gave Carroll a new career-high in shooting accuracy (78%). Another player making a difference was Eric Lyon, who went 6-for-12 to rack up 14 points along with seven boards and six assists.

Covenant Day's victory bumped their record up to 15-13. As for Charlotte Christian, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 7-19 record this season.

Covenant Day didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 69-65 win against Charlotte Country Day School on the 7th. As for Charlotte Christian, they have also already played their next game, a 94-73 defeat against Cannon on the 7th.
