Baseball Recap: Del Norte Gets the Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Del Norte ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the San Marcos Knights 7-6. This was a revenge game for the Nighthawks: when they faced off against the Knights on Tuesday, they had to take a 3-2 defeat.

Ryan Gonzalez got the start for Del Norte and what a start it was: he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Gonzalez has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Daniel Villalpando, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Griffen Gusich was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Del Norte kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Del Norte has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for San Marcos, their loss dropped their record down to 15-8.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Knights beat Del Norte by a score of 13-4 on Saturday.
