Volleyball Recap: Wheatmore Warriors vs. West Davidson Dragons
Wheatmore came into their game on Wednesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 3-0 to the West Davidson Dragons. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Dragons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 back in September.
Wheatmore was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made West Davidson work for it, especially in the second set. The match finished with set scores of 25-17, 26-24, 25-23.
Madeline Mullinix paced Wheatmore's offense, picking up nine kills. Mullinix got some help from Lanie McMahan and her 17 assists. McMahan was also solid from the service line: she led the team with three aces.
West Davidson can attribute much of their success to Cheyenne Hedrick, who had 15 digs and two aces. What's more, Hedrick posted three assists, the most she's had over her last six contests.
Wheatmore has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season. As for West Davidson, they pushed their record up to 13-8 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home.
Wheatmore has already played their next matchup (against Central Davidson), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for West Davidson, they will square off against Trinity at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
