West Potomac is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Alexandria City on Friday, sneaking past 18-16. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wolverines have posted since April 8, 2024.
Dani Mechling looked comfortable as she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That hit marked the first that she allowed this season.
At the plate, West Potomac let Jillian Lafayette and Shea Studdiford run wild. Lafayette scored three runs while going 3-for-4, while Studdiford went 1-for-2 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI Studdiford has posted since back in May of 2024. Ashley McGuckin was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
West Potomac kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. They are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Fairfax, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They skirted past Robinson 7-6. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Lions as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Avery Adler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on six hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Amy Hartle was incredible, going 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Katelyn Huang, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Fairfax's victory bumped their record up to 2-3. As for West Potomac, their win bumped their record up to 2-4.
Fairfax's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: West Potomac hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .361. It's a different story for Fairfax, though, as they've only averaged .239. Will they be able to contain West Potomac's hitters?
