Football Game Preview: Swainsboro Tigers vs. Toombs County Bulldogs

Swainsboro is preparing for their first region matchup of the season on Friday. They will host the Toombs County Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. Swainsboro is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

It was a proper cat-fight when Swainsboro duked it out with Crisp County last Friday. The Tigers walked away with a 21-14 victory over the Cougars.

The critical scores for Swainsboro came from Ja'Bios Smith, Kyle Johnson, and Ashton McCastle.

Meanwhile, Tattnall County kept up with Toombs County until halftime on Friday, but afterwards: not so much. The Bulldogs put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 28-6 win. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by 22 points or more this season.

Swainsboro better keep an eye on Justin Powell. He was instrumental in Toombs County's win, rushing for 178 yards and two TDs on only 12 carries. With that strong performance, Powell is now averaging an impressive 106.8 rushing yards per game.

Toombs County was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 317 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.

Toombs County's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Swainsboro, their win bumped their record up to 6-0.

Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Swainsboro has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 209.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Toombs County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 192.7 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Swainsboro took a serious blow against Toombs County in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, falling 44-8. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Powell, who rushed for 77 yards and three touchdowns on only five carries.
