Softball Recap: Monmouth United Comes Up Short

Monmouth United was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Princeville Princes. The Red Storm were not able to make up for their defeat to the Princes from their previous meeting back in May of 2023.

Ella Bernhardt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and five unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, Ava Westart was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Mallory Giddings was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Monmouth United's loss dropped their record down to 4-21. As for Princeville, with the win, they broke their six-game losing streak and moved their record to 6-18.

While Monmouth United had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
