Basketball Recap: Jackson County Comes Up Short

Jackson County lost against South Laurel back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Jackson County Generals lost 60-39 to the South Laurel Cardinals.

South Laurel found their leader in sophomore Maci Messer, who shot 4-for-5 from downtown and dropped a double-double on 22 points and 12 boards. Messer has become a key player for South Laurel: the team is 6-2 when she posts at least eight rebounds, but 1-2 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Skeeter Mabe, who went 5 of 12 on her way to 10 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Jackson County's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for South Laurel, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Jackson County won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Whitley County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for South Laurel, they and North Laurel will meet in a classic North v. South matchup at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
