Baseball Recap: Springfield's Luck Changes for the Better on Monday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Covenant Christian Academy, Springfield was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They never let the Bogalusa Lumberjacks get on the board and left with an 11-0 win. Considering the Bulldogs have won nine matchups by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Brock Cothern was a standout: he got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Springfield: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 9-15 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Lipscomb, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Springfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .654. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory snapped Springfield's losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 13-16 record. As for Bogalusa, their defeat was their seventh straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-11.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Springfield beat the Lumberjacks by a score of 12-2 on Wednesday.
