Softball Recap: Westville Has No Trouble Against Tri-Township

While Westville put up plenty of runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Tri-Township. The Blackhawks were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over the Tigers. Considering the Blackhawks have won five matchups by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Kierstin Vargas made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kiersten Vaughan, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played. Lily Green was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Westville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tri-Township only posted an OBP of .111.

Westville has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Tri-Township, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Coming up, Westville will square off against Wheeler at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Blackhawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bearcats have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season. As for Tri-Township, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against North White at 5:30 p.m.
