Baseball Recap: Lamesa Gets the Win

Lamesa lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Stanton, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's match. The Lamesa Tornadoes' pitcher stepped up to hand the Stanton Buffaloes an 8-0 shutout on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Tornadoes, who have now won three contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

Jonah Muniz made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Xavier Zorola, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Lamesa: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-4 otherwise. Jeremy Garza was another key player, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

The win got Lamesa back to even at 5-5. As for Stanton, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-7.

Coming up, Lamesa will venture away from home to face off against Coahoma at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Coahoma has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.38 runs per game on average), something Lamesa will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Stanton, they will welcome Brownfield at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
