Basketball Game Preview: Cumberland County Jets vs. Gatlinburg-Pittman Highlanders

The Cumberland County Jets and the Gatlinburg-Pittman Highlanders will round out the year against one another at at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

Cumberland County is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Coffee County Central just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Monday. They were dealt a 74-35 defeat at the hands of the Red Raiders. While losing is never fun, the Jets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 136th, while the Red Raiders are ranked seventh).

Meanwhile, Gatlinburg-Pittman entered their tilt with Newport Central Catholic on Thursday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They enjoyed a cozy 57-43 win over the Thoroughbreds.

Cumberland County better focus on containing Maliyah Glasper and Chloe Mejias as the pair were huge in Gatlinburg-Pittman's win. Glasper went 8 of 19 on her way to 20 points and five steals, while Mejias went 9 of 14 on her way to 19 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. The contest was Glasper's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Addi Wear, who posted nine points.

Gatlinburg-Pittman is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points per game. As for Cumberland County, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.
