Volleyball Recap: Catalina Foothills Starts Season with Loss at Home

Catalina Foothills unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They came up short against the Mica Mountain Thunderbolts on Thursday, falling 3-0. The Falcons were not able to make up for their loss to the Thunderbolts from their previous meeting back in August of 2024.

Catalina Foothills was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the second set very close. The final score came out to 25-13, 25-23, 25-20.

Despite the loss, Catalina Foothills still got an impressive performance from Leah Stoneking, who had 16 digs and three aces. Another player making a difference was Zoe Brown, who had 15 assists and four digs.

Leading Mica Mountain to victory were ANNYCIA ARENAS and HANNAH SCHADE. ARENAS had nine digs and two aces, while SCHADE hit 72.2% for 13 kills and six digs, four aces, and one block. That's the most aces SCHADE has posted since back in November of 2024.

Mica Mountain has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Catalina Foothills has already played their next matchup, a 2-0 win against Tanque Verde on the 30th. As for Mica Mountain, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 3-0 victory against Marana on the 2nd.
