Basketball Recap: East Columbus Skates Past West Columbus with Ease

East Columbus won the last time they faced West Columbus and things went their way on Monday too. The East Columbus Gators breezed by the West Columbus Vikings to the tune of 65-24. The Gators have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight games by 24 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead East Columbus to victory, but perhaps none more so than Malia Graham, who went 7 of 9 on her way to 16 points and seven steals. Graham has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last ten times she's played. Another player making a difference was Mckenzie Spivey, who went 7 for 11 en route to 18 points.

East Columbus smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 43 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Despite the defeat, West Columbus saw an underclassman step up: freshman Alaina Spencer posted seven points. Spencer is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games.

East Columbus is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.1 points per game. As for West Columbus, they dropped their record down to 2-12 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road.

East Columbus has already played their next game (against Pender), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. West Columbus didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 47-23 defeat against Heide Trask on the 4th.
