Basketball Recap: Tucumcari Piles Up the Points Against Raton

A well-balanced attack led Tucumcari over Raton in every quarter on their way to victory on Saturday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Tucumcari Rattlers blew the Raton Tigers out of the water with a 65-9 final score. The Rattlers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 24 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Tucumcari to victory, but perhaps none more so than July Lafferty, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. Lafferty is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Caylee Benavidez, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 11 points along with eight assists and eight rebounds.

Tucumcari smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 46 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Tucumcari is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.1 points per game. As for Raton, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-14.

Tucumcari wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 75-36 win against Clayton on the 6th. Raton has also already played their next contest, a 48-21 victory against Santa Fe Prep on the 4th.
