Softball Game Preview: Brentwood Bruins vs. Independence Eagles

The Brentwood Bruins will head out to face off against the Independence Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.

Brentwood barely beat Ravenwood the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Bruins blew past the Raptors 8-1 on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Bruins in their matchups with the Raptors: they've now won three in a row.

Meanwhile, Independence waltzed into their match on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 10-3 win. Independence's victory was all the more impressive since the Lions were averaging only 3.83 runs allowed on the season.

Kerrigan Riebe and Brylie Waechter were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Riebe didn't allow a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched. Meanwhile, Waechter pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Riebe has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Riebe went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double, while Waechter scored two runs while going 2-for-5. That's the most runs Waechter has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Logan Riebe and Piper Johnson did most of the damage at the plate: Riebe went 2-for-5 with one home run and three RBI, while Johnson scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. That's the most runs Johnson has posted over her last six games. Another player making a difference was Addy McDow, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Brentwood's record is now 11-3. As for Independence, they now have a winning record of 11-10.

Brentwood skirted past Independence 3-2 in their previous matchup back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bruins since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
