Recap: Cuba Rams vs. Crownpoint Eagles
If the Cuba Rams were feeling good off their 71-34 takedown of the Wingate Bears last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Cuba fell 43-34 to Crownpoint on Tuesday. Cuba has not had much luck with Crownpoint recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Cuba's loss came despite strong showings from Emma Yazzie and Liliana Maestas. Yazzie scored 12 points along with seven rebounds, while Maestas scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Those 11 points set a new season-high mark for her.
Even though they lost, Cuba were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Cuba's defeat was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-3. As for Crownpoint, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-2.
Cuba will be home for the holidays to greet Mesa Vista at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Crownpoint, they will head out on the road to face off against Portales at 8:00 a.m. on Friday.
