Basketball Recap: Geneseo Comes Up Short

Geneseo lost against Sterling back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Geneseo Maple Leafs lost 45-19 to the Sterling Golden Warriors. While losing is never fun, the Maple Leafs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 355th, while the Golden Warriors are ranked 18th).

Geneseo has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season. As for Sterling, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Geneseo will face off against Galesburg at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Galesburg will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something Geneseo surely won't give up without a fight. As for Sterling, they will head out to square off against East Moline United at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Sterling is facing East Moline United at the right time seeing as East Moline United is stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
