Softball Recap: Mineola Takes Down Redwater in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, Mineola rose to the challenge on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Redwater Dragons as they made off with a 12-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Yellowjackets, who have now won 18 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Journie Wilson made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaitlyn McMahon, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Mahayla McMahon, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Mineola always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Redwater only posted an OBP of .125.

The win was the seventh in a row for Mineola, bringing their record up to 21-11-2. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.6 runs over those games. As for Redwater, their loss dropped their record down to 13-19-1.

Mineola will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Dragons: the pair will be back at it again later today.
