Baseball Game Preview: Helix Highlanders vs. Valhalla Norsemen

For the second straight game, Helix will face off against Valhalla. The Highlanders will face off against the Norsemen at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Helix has four straight victories, Valhalla has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

If Helix beats Valhalla with four runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Highlanders sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over the Norsemen on Friday.

Matt Martinez looked comfortable as he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kie Smith, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run and one double. Another player making a difference was Angel Watkins, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Helix pushed their record up to 11-9 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Valhalla, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-14.
