Softball Recap: Hopewell Wins Going Away Against Chambers

Hopewell never let their opponents score on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Chambers Cougars with a sharp 17-0 win. The Titans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by 16 runs or more this season.

Ellie Wicks made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Wicks was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

In other batting news, Scarlett Ernest was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Kori West was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Hopewell has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. Chambers has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-3 record this season.

Hopewell is taking a road trip to challenge West Mecklenburg at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for West Mecklenburg: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while Hopewell has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road. As for Chambers, they will take on North Mecklenburg at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
