Softball Game Preview: Jennings Bulldogs vs. Grand Lake Hornets

The Jennings Bulldogs will head out to take on the Grand Lake Hornets at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Jennings has three straight wins, Grand Lake has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Jennings proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by 18) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out DeQuincy 4-3.

Jenna Morvant spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jennings let Madeleine Person and Kylie Price run wild. Person scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Price scored a run while going 1-for-3. That stolen base marked the first that Person snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Ava Gary, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in both of her plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Grand Lake fell victim to St. Louis Catholic and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 8-0 to the Saints.

Jennings' victory bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Grand Lake, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

Jennings took their win against Grand Lake in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 13-7. Will Jennings repeat their success, or does Grand Lake have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
