Troy hadn't done well against Canton recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Trojans were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Warriors. Considering the Trojans have won five matchups by more than nine runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Joseph Frye made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Troy let Brendan Gilliland and Mason Smith run wild. Gilliland scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Smith scored a run while going 1-for-3. What's more, Smith posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Logunn Heasley, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

Troy hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Canton struck out eight times.

The win (which was Troy's third in a row) raised their record to 5-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Canton, they dropped their record down to 1-6 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Troy will face off against Wellsboro at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Trojans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hornets have averaged an impressive 7.9 runs per game this season. As for Canton, they will take on Sullivan County at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
