Baseball Recap: MACCRAY Drops Season-High Score on Canby

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask MACCRAY). They were the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over the Canby Lancers on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Grayson Ahrenholz made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Wyatt Swenson was incredible, going 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for MACCRAY: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Xavier Noble, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

MACCRAY always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

MACCRAY moved to 8-9 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for Canby, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 5-7-1 record.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. MACCRAY will face off against Wabasso at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Canby, they will square off against Russell-Tyler-Ruthton at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Lancers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Knights have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season.
