Basketball Game Preview: Northridge Knights vs. Viewmont Vikings

Two dominant forwards in Karlee Mayfield and Mara Mickelson are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Northridge Knights will be playing in front of their home fans against the Viewmont Vikings at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Northridge turned things around against Box Elder on Friday. They managed a 40-35 win over the Bees. The score was all tied up 16-16 at the break, but the Knights were the better team in the second half.

Meanwhile, Viewmont didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Woods Cross on Friday, but they still walked away with a 50-44 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Vikings.

Viewmont's win came from a few key players Northridge will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Mickelson, who went 7 for 14 on her way to 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mary Carr, who posted eight points and six rebounds.

Viewmont is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.4 points per game. As for Northridge, their win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 6-7.

Northridge didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Viewmont in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, but they still walked away with a 49-45 victory.
