The Larkin Royals will square off against the Elmwood Park Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Larkin is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Larkin took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They blew past Aurora East 18-3. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Royals considering their two-run performance the game before.
Jiselle Aguinaga made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Aguinaga was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Kenya Ventura was a standout: she scored four runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Mya Bermudez, who scored three runs and stole six bases while going 1-for-2.
Larkin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .771. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Elmwood Park's offense. They lost 15-0 to Riverside-Brookfield on Tuesday. The Tigers' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.
Elmwood Park saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isabel Hall, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Larkin's victory bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Elmwood Park, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Larkin has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Elmwood Park struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Larkin beat Elmwood Park 4-0 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Royals repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
