Basketball Recap: New Bloomfield Takes a Loss

New Bloomfield lost against Eugene back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The New Bloomfield Wildcats had to suffer through a 90-46 loss at the hands of the Eugene Eagles. The Wildcats were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 54-22.

New Bloomfield's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jacob Fuhriman, who went 6 of 13 to rack up 17 points along with six assists and five rebounds, and Trenton Boessen, who went 6 for 12 on his way to 15 points and eight boards. Boessen continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Hunter Roberts also deserves some recognition as he pulled down his first board of the season.

Even though they lost, New Bloomfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive games.

New Bloomfield has traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 13 contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.0 points over those games. As for Eugene, the victory (which was their 13th in a row) raised their record to 20-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Wildcats take on the Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. New Bloomfield is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.7 points per game this season. As for Eugene, they will square off against Russellville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
