Softball Game Preview: Lakeside Christian Lions vs. St. Petersburg Catholic Barons

The Lakeside Christian Lions will take on the St. Petersburg Catholic Barons at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Lakeside Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.

It was a proper cat-fight when Lakeside Christian faced off against Bradenton Christian on Tuesday. Lakeside Christian fell 11-8 to Bradenton Christian. The Lions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Lex Mello and Christine Trofemuk did some serious damage despite the final result: Mello scored two runs while going 2-for-5, while Trofemuk scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-5. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaci Morris, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Lakeside Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 29 runs the game before, St. Petersburg Catholic was a bit more limited in their matchup on Thursday. They lost 24-1 to Saint Stephen's Episcopal. The loss continues a trend for the Barons in their meetings with the Falcons: they've now lost four in a row.

St. Petersburg Catholic saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lillian Barnard, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double and one RBI.

Lakeside Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for St. Petersburg Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.

Lakeside Christian's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's game. Lakeside Christian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for St. Petersburg Catholic, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Lakeside Christian continue to outrun the ball?
