Basketball Recap: Tamera Henderson Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Spurger

After losing to Spurger the last time they met, Leggett decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Leggett Pirates were the clear victor by a 53-27 margin over the Spurger Pirates on Tuesday. Leggett pushed the score to 43-15 by the end of the third, a deficit Spurger cut but never quite recovered from.

Leggett's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tamera Henderson, who posted 18 points in addition to five steals and four blocks. That's the most blocks Henderson has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Bianca Perkins, who put up 20 points in addition to eight assists and five boards.

Leggett smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

The victory got Leggett back to even at 13-13. As for Spurger, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.

Leggett will venture away from home to face off against Goodrich at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Spurger, they will take on Brookeland at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Brookeland has four straight wins, Spurger has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
