Volleyball Game Preview: Marquette Mustangs vs. Lafayette Lancers

Marquette has won six straight games at home, while Lafayette has won six straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Tuesday. The Mustangs will host the Lancers at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Marquette is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Missouri's top teams: St. Joseph's Academy, who was ranked 17th at the time (Marquette was ranked ninth). The Mustangs put the hurt on the Angels with a sharp 3-0 victory on Saturday.

While Marquette won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the third set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-11, 25-20, 25-23.

Meanwhile, Lafayette was able to grind out a solid win over Ursuline Academy on Saturday, taking the game 3-1.

Marquette better focus on containing Aubrey Dumstorff and Alexa Hastings as the pair were huge in Lafayette's win. Dumstorff had 13 digs and two aces, while Hastings had five digs and three aces. That's the most digs Dumstorff has posted since back in September. Addy Wiese also deserves some recognition as she had her first kill of the season.

Lafayette was lethal from the service line and finished the match with ten aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least seven aces in three consecutive contests.

Marquette's victory bumped their record up to 19-16. As for Lafayette, their win bumped their record up to 36-1.

Marquette might still be hurting after the 3-0 loss they got from Lafayette in their previous matchup back in September. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Wiese, who had 23 digs and four assists. Now that the Mustangs know the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time?
