Basketball Recap: Hurricane Redskins vs. George Washington Patriots

If the Hurricane Redskins were feeling good off their 67-23 takedown of the Lincoln County Panthers last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Hurricane had to suffer through a rough 81-49 loss at the hands of the Patriots. While losing is never fun, Hurricane can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 52nd, while the Patriots are ranked first).

Hurricane's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Alexandra Anderson, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds, and Rylyn Bielinski who scored 11 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bielinski has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Gabby Quijano, who scored eight points along with four steals.

Hurricane struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Hurricane has not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season. As for George Washington, the win (which was their 13th in a row) raised their record to 14-2.

Hurricane is on the road again on Monday and plays the Red Devils at 9:30 a.m. on February 5th. That contest will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Hadleigh McGoskey and Anderson. As for George Washington, they will head out on the road to take on the Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The timing isn't great for Cabell Midland: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while the Patriots have snatched up four consecutive wins on the road.
