Basketball Recap: Cassidy Jones' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Mt. Vernon over Fairfield

Mt. Vernon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 17th straight defeat dating back to last season. They received a blow as they fell 41-23 to the Fairfield Mules.

Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cassidy Jones, who posted four points. The dominant performance also gave Jones a new career-high in steals (two). Taylor Ellison also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Mt. Vernon's loss dropped their record down to 0-16. As for Fairfield, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-9.

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Mt. Vernon Wildcats face off against the Evansville Memorial Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Fairfield has already played their next matchup (against Frankfort), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
