Basketball Game Preview: Mobile Christian Leopards vs. Leroy Bears

The Mobile Christian Leopards will wrap up 2024 with a road trip to face off against the Leroy Bears at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

Mobile Christian is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Saraland just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Saturday. They lost to the Spartans on the road by a 60-45 margin. While losing is never fun, the Leopards can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 144th, while the Spartans are ranked 45th).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Leroy). They blew past St. Luke's Episcopal 68-47 on Friday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Bears as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Mobile Christian better keep an eye on Joshua Reed. He was instrumental in Leroy's win, shooting 5-for-8 from beyond the arc and dropping a double-double on 25 points and ten boards. Those 25 points gave Reed a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ja'Kavien Collins, who posted three points in addition to 11 rebounds and five steals.

Leroy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in ten consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Mobile Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Leroy, their record now sits at 3-4.

Mobile Christian came out on top in a nail-biter against Leroy when the teams last played back in February of 2016, sneaking past 46-44. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mobile Christian since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
