League recap: Brighton tops Alta to extend winning streak

Brighton extended the longest winning streak in 5A Region 3 this week by beating Alta, 38-28. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.

West Jordan fell to Bingham 42-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Adnan Mukic was a bright spot for the Jaguars, as he in the loss.

Jordan's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Austin Kafentzis threw for 154 and 3 touchdowns and Tayler Johnson had 89 yards receiving. On the ground Clay Moss contributed 110 yards. Moss helped Jordan's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 28 yards.

He was 6-12 with 1 interception.

Johnson was the best receiver in the league this week as the Beetdiggers bested Copper Hills. Johnson racked up 2 receptions for 89 yards. Moss helped Jordan's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 28 yards.

Thanks to the talents of Kafentzis and Moss, Jordan has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Kafentzis leads the league in passing with 1,388 yards, while Moss has rushed for 825 yards this season. The Hawks' Mack Richards leads the league in receiving yards with 582 on 31 catches.

The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Eric Kjar's team and Alta. The Beetdiggers comes into the matchup ranked 12th in the state, while Robert Stephens' team ranks seventh.

Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when the Hawks' Richards goes up against Jordan's Kafentzis.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Miners take on Brighton. Bingham has allowed 67 points this season, while Ryan Bullet's team has given up 82. David Peck's team allowed 0 points last week as it defeated West Jordan.

Daniel Dupaix's team made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,507 from 5,919. The improvement was the result of a 42-0 victory over the Jaguars last week.
