Baseball Recap: Phillips Academy Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with Worcester Academy

Phillips Academy faced Worcester Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Big Blue fell 9-5 to the Hilltoppers. The Big Blue were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hilltoppers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Phillips Academy got a good showing from Robert Brown, who struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Brown has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Logan Umbarch and Jun An did some serious damage despite the final result: Umbarch went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one RBI, while An went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Phillips Academy's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Worcester Academy, they pushed their record up to 6-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Hilltoppers beat Phillips Academy by a score of 4-1 later that day.
