Horizon Science Academy McKinley Park had to kick off their season on the road on Monday, but they showed no ill effects. They put the hurt on the Horizon Science Academy-Southwest Huskies with a sharp 41-20 win. The game was the first time the Hawks have beaten the Huskies on their court since January 9, 2018.

Horizon Science Academy McKinley Park found their leader in freshman Shirley Williams, who posted 22 points. Another player making a difference was Siying Zhao, who had eight points.

Several Huskies players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mariah Horne, who put up seven points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. Horne has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Areli Santamaria was another key player, putting up eight points and eight boards.

Coming up, Horizon Science Academy McKinley Park will be playing in front of their home fans against Golder at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Horizon Science Academy-Southwest, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Back of the Yards College Prep at 5:00 p.m. on December 3.
