Softball Recap: Burrillville Broncos vs. West Warwick Wizards
Burrillville extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping their season record down to 5-10 in the process. They came up short against the West Warwick Wizards, falling 12-5. If the Broncos were looking for revenge after losing 14-0 to the Wizards when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Macey Polacek was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Olivia Audette, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
As for West Warwick, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Considering they have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
On West Warwick's side, Bryce Principe made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up five earned runs off eight hits. Those ten strikeouts gave Principe a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs.
In other batting news, Madison Walsh and Olivia Zajdek did most of the damage at the plate: Walsh got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI and one double, while Zajdek went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Burrillville wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 20-8 win against Mt. Hope on the 20th. As for West Warwick, they have also already played their next matchup, a 13-5 victory against Ponaganset on the 20th.
