Recap: Nichols Vikings vs. Cardinal O'Hara Hawks

The Nichols Vikings lost against the Cardinal O'Hara Hawks back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Nichols was beaten by Cardinal O'Hara 62-33. While losing is never fun, Nichols can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 54th, while Cardinal O'Hara is ranked second).

Nichols' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Madisen Wilson, who scored 11 points, and Brianna Barr-buday who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Barr-buday hasn't dropped below ten rebounds for seven straight games.

Cardinal O'Hara's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jordyn Williams, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Williams has scored all season. Kyla Hayes was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds.

Nichols has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-8 record this season. As for Cardinal O'Hara, the win (which was their 17th in a row) raised their record to 19-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Nichols will take on Mount St. Mary Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Nichols focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 on Thursday. As for Cardinal O'Hara, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Sacred Heart Academy at 6:00 p.m. on February 13th.
