While West Union put up some runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Smithville. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Seminoles. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won eight games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Jon Grey Morrisson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because West Union is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-9 otherwise. Morrisson was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Grant Martin was incredible, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of West Union's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-1 (and 3-8 when he doesn't). Mack Wallis was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
West Union was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
The win got West Union back to even at 9-9. As for Smithville, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-16.
West Union will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Seminoles: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
