The Master's Academy Eagles will square off against the Tavares Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Master's Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.2 runs per game this season.
Master's Academy's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed last Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over Lake Highland Prep. The Eagles have beaten the Highlanders the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Highlanders has come to flipping the script.
Reagan Peri was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lauren McMeel, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Karina Morales was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Tavares came tearing into Friday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Yellow Jackets by a score of 5-2. While the Bulldogs didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Kayla Enix spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits.
On the hitting side, Tavares' win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jasmine Lawrence, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Tayla Yates also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Tavares' victory bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Master's Academy, their win bumped their record up to 6-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Master's Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Tavares struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Master's Academy came up short against Tavares when the teams last played back in April of 2023, falling 16-12. Can Master's Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
