Softball Game Preview: Seaman Vikings vs. West Chargers

Seaman is 9-1 against West since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Vikings will host the Chargers at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

West will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Seaman extended their winning streak to six on Tuesday. The Vikings blew past Piper 10-3.

Lydia Dreher spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up seven Ks. Those seven strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Avery Phelps, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 2-for-4. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Acey Thompson, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

Seaman hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in seven consecutive matches.

While West didn't have the best season last year (they finished 3-9-2), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on Leavenworth with a sharp 18-3 victory on Tuesday. The Chargers have beaten the PIONEERS the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the PIONEERS has come to flipping the script.

Seaman pushed their record up to 11-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for West, their win bumped their record up to 8-4.

Seaman took their victory against West in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 17-1 score. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Chargers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
