Brush has gone a perfect 3-0 against Wickliffe recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Arcs will head out to square off against the Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. Brush has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with three straight losses, while Wickliffe will come in with three straight wins.
Friday just wasn't the day for Brush's offense. They fell 4-0 to South on Friday. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Arcs were not able to get on the board.
Wickliffe came out on top against Hawken on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run third inning. The Blue Devils put the hurt on the Hawks with a sharp 11-1 victory. The Blue Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by eight runs or more this season.
Nunzio Zivnoska made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Logan Ruscin and Liam Widemire did most of the damage at the plate: Ruscin got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Widemire got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Kaden Urban was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
Wickliffe was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in nine consecutive matchups.
Brush's defeat dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Wickliffe, their record now sits at 13-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Brush has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Wickliffe struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Brush took their win against Wickliffe in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Arcs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
