Preview: Southwestern Heights Mustangs vs. Holcomb Longhorns
Southwestern Heights is 0-4 against Holcomb since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Southwestern Heights Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Holcomb Longhorns at 6:00 p.m. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Southwestern Heights took care of business in their home opener on Friday (and then some). They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 56-16 victory over Skyline.
Southwestern Heights can attribute much of their success to Juanita Puentes, who scored 17 points along with 9 steals, and Layla Pearl kisner, who almost dropped a triple-double on 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 9 steals. Another player making a difference was Emma Stanfield, who scored 5 points.
Even though Holcomb has not done well against Cimarron recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Holcomb blew past Cimarron, posting a 61-34 win at home.
Southwestern Heights' win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Holcomb, their win bumped their record up to an identical 1-0.
Southwestern Heights came up short against Holcomb when the teams last played back in January of 2018, falling 37-29. Can Southwestern Heights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
