Softball Recap: Lake City Drops Season-High Score on Sandpoint

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lake City). They put the hurt on the Sandpoint Bulldogs with a sharp 23-9 victory on Tuesday. Considering the Timberwolves have won seven games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Madeline Peterson made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Peterson was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Lake City got a massive performance out of KaeLee Kolden, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most runs Kolden has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Aaliyah Lopez, who scored four runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Lake City kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in eight consecutive matches.

Lake City pushed their record up to 9-4-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.4 runs over those games. As for Sandpoint, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-11.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lake City will venture away from home to square off against Post Falls at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Sandpoint, they will head out to challenge Lakeland at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hawks have averaged an impressive 10.5 runs per game this season.
