Baseball Recap: Somerset Makes It Three in a Row at Home

Somerset won the last time they faced Rockcastle County and things went their way on Monday too. The Briar Jumpers came out on top against the Rockets by a score of 7-4.

Kole Grundy made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He is becoming a predictor of Somerset's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 5-2 (and 9-17 when he doesn't). Grundy was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.

In other batting news, Caynan Sizemore was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Micah Sizemore was another key player, earning three runs and two stolen bases.

Somerset's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-19. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Rockcastle County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-15 record this season.

Somerset will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Somerset Christian at 6:00 p.m. on June 30. The Briar Jumpers are facing the Cougars at the right time seeing as the Cougars are stuck on an 11-game losing streak. Rockcastle County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
