Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Nicholas Sobek and Austin Ford Lead Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory to Victory

It's playoff time, and Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory had no trouble coming through when it counted. Everything went their way against the Crawfordsville Athenians on Wednesday as the Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory Braves made off with a 72-46 victory. Given the Braves' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 65th, while the Athenians are ranked 349th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory to victory were Austin Ford and Nicholas Sobek. Ford shot 44% from the field to rack up 18 points in addition to six assists and five boards, while Sobek went 7-for-12 en route to 19 points and six rebounds. Sobek continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Strickland, who posted seven points and 11 rebounds.

Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Despite the loss, Crawfordsville still got an impressive performance from Alec Saidian, who shot 60% from the field on his way to 19 points and six boards. Saidian has been hot, having posted 15 or more points the last five times he's played. Mason McCarty was another key player, putting up 16 points and seven rebounds.

The win made it two in a row for Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory and bumps their season record up to 14-8. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.0 points over those games. As for Crawfordsville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 11 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-17 record this season.

Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 59-45 loss against Guerin Catholic on the 7th. Crawfordsville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
