Baseball Recap: Quilcene Starts Season with Victory Against Darrington

Quilcene took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 9-3 margin over the Darrington Loggers. This was payback for the Rangers, who suffered a 17-2 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Oliver Hopkins was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Hopkins was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Aiden Cate and Liam Neziri did most of the damage at the plate: Cate scored two runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Neziri scored two runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Jayden Love, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Quilcene will challenge Crosspoint Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Darrington, they will venture away from home to challenge Muckleshoot Tribal at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
