Basketball Game Preview: Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot Knights vs. Southampton Academy Raiders

Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot and Southampton Academy are an even 5-5 against one another since November of 2021, but not for long. The Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot Knights will host the Southampton Academy Raiders at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Friday, Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot came up short against Brunswick Academy and fell 67-55.

Despite their defeat, Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Michael Polster, who went 6-for-14 en route to 18 points and five boards, was perhaps the best of all. The dominant performance gave Polster a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Daniel Lopez, who posted ten points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Southampton Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped on Thursday as they easily beat Isle of Wight Academy 71-44.

Southampton Academy's win came from a few key players Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was A Darden, who dropped a double-double with 27 points and 11 boards. He is becoming a predictor of Southampton Academy's success: when he posts at least 15 points the team is 4-2 (and 5-10 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of G Applewhite, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 18 rebounds.

Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-5. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.7 points over those games. As for Southampton Academy, their win bumped their record up to 9-12.

Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot beat Southampton Academy 64-55 in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Will Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot repeat their success, or does Southampton Academy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
